The Legend continues…

Malvern Star promotional advert

Our premises in Victoria Street has been home to local bike shops for over 87 years. This advert is from an original St. Patrick’s Day Sports Official Programme from  1926. While many aspects of the cycle industry have changed over the years – some things have stayed the same – we still deal in superb cycles and aim to provide prompt and efficient service.

Ron Steel has owned Rock N Road Cycles for over 20 years – during this time he has put together a fine collection of vintage bicycles. One of which was indeed built here and we had the pleasure of meeting a customer who had an ‘after-school job’ of painting the detailing on the frame.

If you’re passing our store, stop in to look at the vintage photographs and newspaper clippings – Mackay has an exciting and fascinating bicycle history which includes a visit from Sir Hubert Opperman in 1932 who rode for Malvern Star and still today has Malvern Star’s “aristocrat [bicycle] of them all, the Oppy” named after him.

The Velodrome at Walkerston is believed to be the the first outside of Melbourne to be built in Australia.
